Something old, something new! Ylläs-Levi Hiihto will be organised by Visit Ylläs and Visit Levi together with cross country ski professionals on 15th April 2023. For the first time, the race is with skating technique. ”As it’s late spring, after Easter, it’s at least easier to avoid waxing challenges!” says cross country ski coach Toni Roponen.
The organisers want to provide the skiers a great ski race to end their long season. There are already plans going on to provide something nice and entertaining after the race. ”Everyone is elite, that’s what we think!” says Kati Vehmas, CEO of Visit Ylläs.
The track is the same as previous winters, from fell to another, from Ylläs Ski Resort to Levi Ski Resort. There are two distances, 70 km and 55 km. 70 km starts from Ylläsjärvi. Easier route of 55 km starts from Äkäslompolo and the last climb to Pyhätunturi is left out. ”This winter the ski race is on skating technique, but again in 2024 it’s on classic style. Our goal is to grow, and hopefully 2025 we will ski both classic and skating style.“ says race director Mikko Koutaniemi. Ylläs-Levi Hiihto and Jätkänkynttilä Ski Marathon are alternating the ski technique, so for the lovers of pure classic style, there is a race of 42 km on 18th March 2023 in Rovaniemi.
Ylläs-Levi Hiihto will be the top ski race to finalise the season, and the preliminary dates for the following years are also already set: 6th April 2024 and 5th April 2025.
The registration fee for 70 km is 65 eur, and for 55 km 60 eur until Christmas. It’s possible to change the skier of the registration for free until 31st March, so the cancellation policy is very skier friendly. Ylläs-Levi Hiihto will be a happy, sunny and fair ski race, which is considering the skier first.
